HostGator Journal 8-2-09

8-2-09 Day 3

This morning I was up really early because my cats where pawing at the door to get in and my dear sweet husband was playing with the band. I know that I have a private SSL certificate. Hmmm. Just can’t find which folder it is in but I know its there because when I type https//www.mydomain.com it comes up.

Trying to add the OSCommerce shopping cart this does not seem to be supported by sitebuilder as an easy loading. So I will need to research and find directions on how to do this. I did manage to get the cart loaded into my dashboard. Now I need to figure out how to install it.

I also added the SSL private seal badge to my home page. That was fairly easy. I will get to practice some more tonight after the kiddo’s are asleep.

HostGator Journal 8-1-09

August 1, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Dear Journal,

8-1-09, Day 2

I’m pleased to have my request answered from HostGator this morning about my own SSL Certificate. They have installed the SSL certificate on my site.

If you decide to go  with HostGator, here is a way to maximize your savings.

Here is a way to figure out how to maximize your savings.

  • If your first bill is $50.00 (-) and under us this code during checkout. HGC25
  • If your first bill is over $50.00 (+) then use the code: Beach during check out.

Today I spent most of my time veiwing the tutorials for sitebuilder and then pausing and executing the process learned and viewing more and pause the tutorial so that I could practice what I learned. I added several pages with in just a few clicks, a sitemap page, and even some subpages of pages. For example: Policies shows up on each page for a click button. Then the sub-pages are returns, payment options, shipping, etc. Very nice and  I didn’t need to learn any code. Maybe tomorrow I’ll tackle the shopping cart.

HostGator Journal 7-31-09

July 31, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Dear Journal,

I opened a hostgator business account today. This wasn’t necessarily in my 1 year plan but then again, I didn’t have it in my 5 year plan either. You know what they say, “When opportunity knocks, you better take it.” I’m pretty frugal and love money saving tips. I feel better about buying stuff when I use a coupon. This time coupon code: beach and saved me 20% off my yearly subscription for a business account.  I think the code expires 8-1-09.

How easy it this to use?

Day 1: So far this is what I accomplished since I opened the account this morning and then went to work outside of the house for a little bit.

  • Requested access to Site Builder and Site Studio.
  • Played around a little bit with Site Studio and decided to use Site Builder instead because there was a template that I liked in Site Builder over the templates in Site Studio.
  • Added a subdomain to my parent domain.
  • Requested my free SSL certificate that came with my subscription to business HostGator.
  • Now waiting for a response so that I can install OSCommerce Cart on my new site.

I think that the video tutorials are very helpful and I recommend using the pause button while watching them so that you have a chance to read and absorb the slide before it goes to the next slide.

Rating for day 1: thumbs up.

Till tomorrow,

Becky

Selling on eBay ~ You don’t want to miss this toy guide by Jenni Hunt

February 22, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I’ve been using Jenni Hunts eBay toy guide over the past year and she just sent me an email with a great offer that I would like to pass along to you. Here is the email and you decide for yourself. Either way she’s offering you a free toy guide just for looking.

Hey there Becky ,

How are your eBay auctions going?

I’ve been hearing that some sellers are really struggling… I hope that isn’t you! But, if it is (and even if your auctions are doing well in this lovely economy)… I have a gift for you.

Every week I poke around on eBay and look for used toys that are selling well on eBay… Combining this research with my experience at garage sales, I put together a weekly list for MyToyGuide subscribers.

This list has at least 25 used toy items that are currently selling on eBay… PLUS, I include a tip for how much I would pay for the item if I were to find it at a thrift shop or garage sale. I am always amazed at the huge profit margin I see with used toys on eBay… seriously – you can buy a toy for $5 and turn it around for well over 100% profit (I’m talking AFTER eBay and paypal fees!)

Here are a couple of things I found that are in the most recent MyToyGuide list…

USED piece of dollhouse furniture for $36! You can find this for less than $5 at garage sales or thrift shops if you know to look for them!… consider that profit margin. If you paid $10 to list and cover your inventory and fees – your profit is an easy $16 just for this one little toy.

How about these…
Did you know that the Toy Story DVD’s for Toy Story 1 and Toy Story 2 – USED – recently sold for over $55? You could pick these up at a garage sale for $15-20 for the set — if you knew to look for them.

The MyToyGuide weekly list provides this information to you on a weekly basis… with actual auctions that are current as proof for what is selling!

Check it out for yourself… you can get the most recent weekly MyToyGuide list HERE:

http://mytoyguide.com/feblist.html
(And be sure to share the list with your eBay friends!)

Print it out… and use it as a reference for shopping for used toy inventory…. a gift – just because :-) Well, actually, I know times are tough right now… and many sellers don’t realize how well they can do with used toys on eBay. In fact, I think used toys are better to sell than new toys -the profit margin is much larger… with limited risk because used toys are so cheap!

Take a look for yourself… there is no sign up – just the most recent MyToyGuide list:

http://mytoyguide.com/feblist.html

Enjoy!
Jenni

PS. We’ve been providing a weekly list for 5 years next month… If you are interested in getting a list like this every month, join in on the celebration and save $10 a month!

In honor of our 5 year anniversary, I’m dropping the price from $15/month to 5 bucks a month!

This offer is not going to be available for long… Learn more here:
